Project Intake Checklist

Starting with the right information helps reduce unnecessary back-and-forth and creates a clearer path for project-specific structural engineering support. This checklist is intended to help clients prepare the key background information MSC typically needs to review a modular project efficiently and determine the most practical engineering approach.

The more complete the initial information, the easier it is to define scope, reduce delays, and support a smoother path toward the required deliverables.

Basic Project Information

Please be prepared to provide:

  • Project name

  • Company name

  • Main point of contact

  • Email and phone number

  • Project location

  • Project schedule or required turnaround time

Structure Type

Identify the structure type involved in the project, such as:

  • Modular Building

  • Industrial Modular Building

  • ISO Container Structure

  • Shade or Canopy Structure

  • Modular Access System

  • Data Center

  • Tension Fabric Building

  • Specialty Structure

If the project does not fit neatly into one category, a short description is usually enough to get started.

Intended Use

Please describe how the structure will be used.

Examples may include:

  • office or workspace

  • equipment enclosure

  • modular ramp system

  • stair or walkway access system

  • data center application

  • commercial structure

  • specialty modular application

Understanding the intended use helps define the engineering path and structural demands of the project.

Drawings and Technical Documents

Please provide any available drawings or technical information, such as:

  • Architectural drawings

  • Structural drawings

  • Shop drawings

  • General arrangement drawings

  • Sketches or markups

  • Previous calculation packages

  • Product information sheets

  • Connection details

  • Dimensions and layout information

If final drawings are not available yet, preliminary documents can still be useful for early review.

Project-Specific Conditions

Please include any known project-specific conditions, such as:

  • Support conditions

  • Anchorage requirements

  • Foundation information

  • Equipment loads

  • Large openings

  • Stacked or multi-unit configuration

  • Transport or lifting requirements

  • Special loading conditions

  • Custom geometry or nonstandard features

These details can significantly affect the engineering scope.

Design Criteria and Jurisdiction Information

If available, please provide:

  • Applicable building code edition

  • Jurisdiction or city requirements

  • Wind speed

  • Seismic design criteria

  • Snow load

  • Exposure category

  • Risk category

  • Occupancy-related information

If these are not yet known, MSC can review the project background and help identify what information may still be needed.

Project-Specific Conditions

Each client may have its own preferred materials, design approach, and production or installation workflow. Please let us know any execution preferences that should be considered during engineering review.

This may include:

  • Preferred materials

  • Standard details

  • Fabrication approach

  • Installation sequence

  • Internal design workflow

  • Existing engineering standards or conventions

This helps MSC align its support with the way your team already works.

Deliverables Needed

Please identify the type of support you are requesting, such as:

  • Structural calculations

  • Drawing review

  • Signed-and-sealed documents where required

  • Lifting and transport analysis

  • Foundation reactions

  • Anchorage engineering

If you are not yet sure which deliverables are needed, that is fine. MSC can help determine the most practical path based on the project information provided.

Schedule Expectations

Please indicate:

  • Required turnaround

  • Target submittal date

  • Permit deadline, if applicable

  • Fabrication or installation milestone, if known

MSC understands the value of time in modular projects, and schedule context helps prioritize the review appropriately.

What Helps the Most

The most helpful intake packages usually include:

  • Clear project location

  • Drawings or sketches

  • Structure type

  • Intended use

  • Support conditions

  • Known design criteria

  • Required deliverables

  • Target timeline

Even if some information is still developing, sharing what is available early can help reduce delays and improve coordination.

Before You Submit

Before sending your project for review, it is helpful to confirm:

  • The latest drawings are included

  • Project location is identified

  • Intended use is clear

  • Special conditions are noted

  • Schedule expectations are communicated

  • Requested deliverables are listed

Need Help Determining What to Send?

If you are unsure what information is needed, MSC can still review the available background and help determine the best next step. The goal is to create a clear, practical engineering path while minimizing unnecessary coordination and saving valuable project time. Request engineering review to get started.
